The BMW 328i was a variant of the E36 BMW 3 Series introduced for the 1996 model year after the E36 325i was discontinued. The 328i was powered by the 2.8L inline six BMW M52 engine, producing 190hp. This power was sent to the rear wheels via manual or automatic transmission options. Sitting below the E36 M3, the 328i was the top non-BMW M offering for the E36 3 Series, and was available in sedan, convertible, coupe, and touring (wagon) body styles. Coupe and convertible variants were also known as 328ic, while a higher trimmed E36 328is was also available. The main variants produced were Sedan - Manual, Sedan - Automatic, Coupe - Manual, Coupe - Automatic, Convertible - Manual, Convertible - Automatic, Touring - Manual, Touring - Automatic. Production of the E36 BMW 328i lasted until 1999.
