Initially, the 635CSi was powered by BMW's 215hp M90 inline six engine, but from the 1983 model year, BMW's M30 engine was used. At first, the 182hp M30B34 3.4L inline six was fitted, but from 1988, the larger and more powerful 208hp M30B35 3.5L inline six was used. All engines used on the manual-equipped 635CSi sent power to the rear wheels, initially a 4 speed manual was used, but from 1981 onwards, a 5 speed manual gearbox was standard. Production of the Manual BMW 635CSi ended in 1989.
