The third generation of Chevrolet Impala debuted for the 1961 model year. This updated generation received more angular styling, as well as a range of mechanical improvements. Convertible, sedan, hardtop, and station wagon body styles were offered, as well as a range of optional V8 engines alongside the standard 235ci inline six. The 1961 Hardtops are commonly reffered to as "Bubble tops" as they had a rounded roof line that looked space age. This Bubbletop roofline was shared by the 1961-1962 Chevrolet Bel Air Hardtop. The 1962 Impala had a re-designed hardtop with a lower profile roof and noticable roof bow styling. The 4th gen Impala would continue on with the '63-'64 models.
