Chevrolet introduced the first generation of Nomad for the 1955 model year. This new series of station wagons featured sleek, hardtop inspired styling, and was offered in a two door body style. The Nomad was one of Chevrolet's premium models during its first two generations, and was heavily related to the contemporary Chevrolet Bel Air. These luxurious station wagons were offered initially offered with a 4.3L (265 cu in) V8, but in 1957 the engine grew to 4.6L (283 cu in). These engines were available in a variety of tuning options. Production of the first generation Nomad ended in 1957, and the model was replaced by the Second Generation Chevrolet Nomad.
