The Challenger R/T was a performance variant of the First Generation Dodge Challenger. The R/T, meaning Road/Track, was introduced for the 1970 model year. These high performance cars were fitted as standard with a 383 cubic inch (6.3L) V8 engine and a three speed manual transmission. Dodge also offered a range of optional V8 units, including two 440 (7.2L) units, and the highly desirable and powerful 426 (7.0L) Hemi engine. While the most common body style for the R/T was the hardtop, just under 1,000 convertible examples were built. Production of the Dodge Challenger R/T lasted until 1971, with the variant being replaced by the Challenger Rallye.
