The Challenger T/A was a performance variant of the First Generation Dodge Challenger. The T/A was a special racing homologation version created for the Challenger to participate in SCCA Trans Am racing, hence the T/A name. Dodge introduced the Challenger T/A for the 1970 model year, and offered the model with a 340 cubic inch (5.6L) V8 engine. Dodge called this engine the 340 'Six Pack,' due to its triple dual-carburetors. This engine produced 290hp, and sent its power through a manual or automatic transmission. The T/A was given a range of distinctive features such as large side stripes, a black fiberglass hood, and front and rear spoilers. Dodge only made the T/A for the 1970 model year, as they decided to withdraw from Trans Am racing after limited success. By the end of production, 2,399 examples were built.
