One of three body styles offered for the 1965-1966 Ford Mustang GT was the Fastback. Introduced for the 1965 model year, the Mustang GT was a performance focused variant of the 1965-1966 First Generation Ford Mustang. Fastback GT cars were equipped with the GT Equipment Package, which included various interior and exterior cosmetic changes, as well as the addition of stiffer springs, quicker steering, a stronger front stabilizer, and disc brakes. Cars equipped with the GT package were also equipped with a unique instrument panel that included additional gauges. Only two engine options were available for Mustangs equipped with the GT Equipment Package, the 225hp "A-code" 289 cubic inch (4.7L) four-barrel carbureted V8, and the top of the line 271hp "K-code" 289 cubic inch (4.7L) V8 that was fitted with an Autolite four-barrel carburetor. These engines were paired to either a 4 speed manual, or a 3 speed 'Cruise-O-Matic' automatic transmission, both of which sent drive to the rear wheels. The Ford Mustang GT was updated after 1966, when Ford introduced the 1967-1968 First Generation Ford Mustang GT.
