The Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster was introduced in 1995. The VT Roadster was the first open top Diablo offered. It featured an electrically operated targa top roof, which would store above the engine cover when not in use. Converting the Diablo to a roadster required a great deal of engineering, as the frame needed to maintain the same stiffness levels as the coupe. Impressively, the VT Roadster achieved this without gaining any additional weight. Sharing the same platform as the VT, the Roadster featured the viscous traction four wheel drive system and the 5.7L V12 engine. The largest difference between the VT and the Roadster apart from the roof, was in the numerous design tweaks throughout the car. The interior is the same as the coupe, apart from certain materials used, as the inside seats and other surfaces needed to be element-proofed. As with the VT, the Roadster was produced in two generations, 1st Gen (1993-1998) and 2nd Gen (1999-2000). From 1999 onwards, the VT Roadster featured new fixed headlights, as well as various mechanical and interior upgrades. Production of the VT Roadster in 2000 was restrained to the Millennium Edition, a limited run of 30 end of series cars meant to celebrate the end of the Diablo Roadster.
