The Mercury Comet was introduced in 1960. For its first two years of production, the Comet was sold without any make badging and it was only until 1963 that the Comet featured Mercury badging. During its lifetime the Comet was offered as both a compact model, and an intermediate model. The Comet was also noted for being the basis for the sporty Mercury Cyclone. Mercury offered the Comet in five generations: 1st Gen (1960-1963), 2nd Gen (1964-1965), 3rd Gen (1966-1967), 4th Gen (1968-1969), and 5th Gen (1971-1977).
