The Mercury Turnpike Cruiser was introduced for the 1957 model year. The Turnpike Cruiser was the top of the Mercury lineup during its production, and was mainly offered as a two or four door hardtop, but a limited run of "Convertible Cruisers" were made to commemorate the use of a one-off convertible Turnpike Cruiser's use as the pace car for the 1957 Indy 500. For the 1957 model year, the Turnpike Cruiser was fitted with a 6.0L V8, but for 1958, a 6.3L and two 7.0L V8 options were available. For 1958, the Turnpike Cruiser was merged with the Montclair, becoming the top trim level for the Montclair. Production of the Turnpike Cruiser ended in 1958, with the model being replaced by the Mercury Park Lane.
