The Mitsubishi Pajero was a series of all wheel drive, mid-size SUVs introduced for the 1983 model year. Depending on the market, the Pajero was also sold under the Montero (US, Spain) and Shogun (UK) names. The Pajero has been sold as a three or five door SUV featuring a side-hinged rear door. Mitsubishi has actively participated in a wide range of offroad motorsport with the Pajero, including the Paris-Dakar Rally, which it won a staggering twelve times. This success was celebrated with the Pajero Evolution variant. The Mitsubishi Pajero has been offered in four generations: 1st Gen (1983-1991), 2nd Gen (1992-1999), 3rd Gen (2000-2006), and 4th Gen (2007-2021). North American Pajero variants were no longer offered after 2006.
