The first generation of Packard Super Eight was introduced in 1933. The new model replaced the Packard DeLuxe Eight, and was available in a variety of open and closed body styles. The Super Eight was the top eight cylinder model offered by Packard, and was initially powered by a 6.3L inline eight engine, but starting in 1937, a smaller 5.2L inline eight engine. Production of the first generation of Packard Super Eight ended in 1939, when the model was spun off into the Packard 160 and Packard 180. The Super Eight name would be used again for the Second Generation of Packard Super Eight which was introduced in 1948.
