The regular, or base model, production variant of the 427 Shelby Cobra was introduced in 1965. These open top roadsters were powered by a Ford-sourced 427 cubic inch (7.0L) V8 engine that had an output of 425hp that drove the rear wheels through a 4 speed manual transmission. Later in the production run, Shelby used a 428 cubic inch V8 instead of the 427. While less powerful and less sought after than its Semi-Competition sibling, the base 427 Cobra is still one of the most desired sports cars of all time.
