The Subaru Sambar was a series of ultramini trucks introduced in 1961. For the large part of its production, the Sambar was rear engined, but in 2009, a front mounted engine was finally fitted. The Sambar has been offered in a variety of body styles, including microvan, microwagon, and pickup. In European markets, the Sambar was also sold as the Domingo, Libero, and Sumo. Subaru has produced the Sambar in eight generations: 1st Gen (1961-1966), 2nd Gen (1967-1973), 3rd Gen (1974-1982), 4th Gen (1983-1990), 5th Gen (1991-1999), 6th Gen (2000-2012), 7th Gen (2009-2020), and 8th Gen (2014-2021). From the 7th generation onward, the Sambar was a badge engineered Daihatsu Hijet. In 2014, only the truck variant of the 8th generation was introduced, the microvan and microwagon were still produced as 7th gen cars.
