Details
This restored 1974 Porsche 914 LE, or Limited Edition, was built to commemorate the Porsche victories at the Can-Am racing series. The car is powered by a fuel-injected 2.0L flat-four engine that is mid-mounted behind the seats and backed by a five-speed manual transmission that sends its power to the rear wheels. The commemorative paint scheme was one of two available to customers. This example is finished in a two-tone Light Ivory with Phoenix Red trim, garnering the name Creamsicle. The car has also been given a new brown leather interior. Standard features on a 914 LE were a front spoiler, a painted B pillar, front and rear anti-roll bars, Mahle alloy wheels, and a center console housing three gauges. The car shows 9,439 miles, and the current owner states that the true mileage is 109,439 miles. It is located in Naples, Florida.
The third-party inspection and photos of this vehicle show a well-cared-for and clean vehicle throughout. The car is the recipient of two restorations during its life, and the current owner is the fifth caretaker of this well-sorted example. A test drive attests to the great mechanical condition of the vehicle. The Targa top is said to fit tight without harsh road noise, and the tires are in good condition as well. The owner is including in the sale a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, photos and receipts dating back to 2009, and records from 2021 to the present, as well as a 50th-anniversary tool kit, white fiberglass top, and factory leather top, and 914 literature.
This Porsche 914 is being sold through a CLASSIC.COM Pro and is located in Naples, Florida.
About the model
The 914/4 is a variant of the Porsche 914 that used a fuel-injected 1.7 L Volkswagen Type 4 flat-four engine producing 80 bhp (60 kW; 81 PS). Originally intending to sell the vehicle as a Volkswagen and the six-cylinder as a Porsche (914/6), Porsche decided during development that having Volkswagen and Porsche models sharing the same body would be risky for business in the American market, and convinced Volkswagen to allow them to sell both versions as Porsches in North America. In 1974, the 1.7 L engine was replaced by an 85 bhp (63 kW; 86 PS) 1.8 L. This market also includes the 100 bhp (75 kW; 101 PS) 2.0 L, fuel-injected version of Volkswagen's Type 4 engine introduced in 1973. In addition, about 1000 Limited Edition cars were built to celebrate Porsche's victories in the Can-Am racing series. These rare cars were available with several special features, including two different paint schemes, the creamsicle and bumble bee.
