The Chevrolet Corsica when originally introduced for 1987 was used as a fleet car for rental car agencies, and then became available to the public for purchase later in the 1987 model year. The Corsica shared the L body platform with the more sporty 2 door Beretta. Initially the Corsica was introduced as a 4 door, and then from 1989-1991 it was available as a 5 door hatchback. In 1989 they also introduced the Corsica LTZ performance package, which incorporated many of the suspension parts of the Berretta. If the XT package was ordered on the Corsica then it included all the special suspension parts of the Berretta in addition to a leather interior, special body kit and spoiler. In 1997 safety standards for the industry changed and the Corsica would have required a redesign to continue on, so Chevrolet elected to discontinue the Corsica and Beretta.
