Ford Mustang - Base Model - 1st Gen (1967 to 1968)

The base, or standard offering for the 1967-1968 First Generation Ford Mustang was offered in Hardtop, Convertible, or Fastback body styles, and featured a wide range engine options. The entry-level engine offering was the 120hp "T-code" 200 cubic inch (3.3L) inline six, while the small block V8 units consisted of the 289 cubic inch (4.7L) 200hp "C-code", the 289 cubic inch (4.7L) 225hp "A-code", the 289 cubic inch (4.7L) 'HiPo' 271hp "K-code", the 302 cubic inch (4.9L) 210hp "F-code", and the 302 cubic inch (4.9L) 230hp "J-code." The "A-code" 289 four-barrel carbureted V8, and the "K-code" HiPo 289 V8 were only offered for the 1967 model year, while the "F-code" and "J-code" 302 V8s were only available for 1968. While the "K-code" remained in production for 1967, it was no longer the top engine available for the base Mustang. This spot was taken by Ford's new "S-code" 390 cubic inch (6.4L) 'FE' big block V8 engine, which had an output of 320hp. These engines were paired to a 3 speed manual, 4 speed manual, or 3 speed automatic transmission, all of which sent drive to the rear wheels. For the 1969 model year, Ford introduced the updated Mustang with the 1969-1970 First Generation Ford Mustang.
