The second generation of the Holden Commodore generated the VN based Ute (VP). These prevalent utility vehicles had a place in the heart of Australian automotive culture and can be similarly compared to the American Chevy El Camino or Ford Ranchero. Powering the two-door Ute was a 3.8L V-6 or a 5.0L V8. Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) would build the first performance variant of the Ute during this generation (1990 to 1997), calling it the Maloo. The third generation Ute was built from 1998 to 2006.
