Based on the VT Commodore the second generation Ute would become officially known as the "Ute." The utility vehicle had independent rear suspension and three trim levels: base, S, and SS. Customers had a choice of an Ecotec V6 or 5.7L V8 mated to a four-speed automatic or five or six-speed manual transmissions. In 2001, a commemorative edition called the SS Fifty to celebrate 50 years of the Ute was built, of which only 500 examples existed. Holden also produced a luxury variant package called the Storm. Holden would produce one more fourth and final generation of the Ute from 2007 to 2017.
