For the 1982 model year, Toyota released a new package for the GT known as the "S". By 1984, this package had become a standalone trim with cars now badged as "GT-S". In 82', power for the GT-S came from Toyota's 22R engine, upgraded to the 22R-E in 83', with the "E" denoting fuel injection. The GT-S was a brawnier looking car, with fender flares, larger wheels, independent rear suspension, and other features that it shared with the Toyota Supra. The GTS was available in both convertible, coupe (notchback) and liftback bodystyles (treated here as hatchback). The GT-S was also available in the fourth generation of the Celica.
