The first generation of AMC Ambassador was introduced for the 1965 model year. The 1st Gen Ambassador was offered in coupe, convertible, sedan, and station wagon (Cross Country) body styles, and various trim levels. A 232ci inline six was the standard engine, while a 287ci or 327ci V8 were optional. Drive was sent to the rear wheels through manual or automatic transmission options. Production of the 1st Gen Ambassador ended in 1966, when it was replaced by the 2nd Gen AMC Ambassador.
