The Series 3 Aston Martin V8 was introduced in 1973. The Series 3 was the second evolution of the Aston Martin V8 (as the first evolution is part of the DBS V8). These cars were offered exclusively in a coupe body style, and featured various cosmetic updates from the previous Series 2. These changes included small details such as the removal of the tire rim bead and removal of the louvers behind the rear windscreen, but the most noticeable change was the significantly larger hood scoop necessitated by the reversion of the 5.3L V8 engine from fuel-injection to Weber carburetors. In 1977, a sportier version of the V8 was introduced, the V8 Vantage. Both automatic and manual transmissions were available for the Series 3, which saw 1,018 examples built (including Vantages) until 1978, when they were replaced by the Series 4 (Oscar India) Aston Martin V8.
