The Austin-Healey 3000 was introduced in 1959 for the 1960 model year. The first generation of 3000, known as the Mk I, was the direct successor to the Austin-Healey 100-6. The largest difference between the 100-6 and the 3000 Mk I was the 2.9L inline six engine. This unit, with its displacement rounded to 3000, was the namesake for this new model. The Mk I 3000 was offered in two configurations: 2-seat Roadster (BN7), and 2+2 Roadster (BT7). Production of the Mk I 3000 lasted until 1961, when it was replaced by the Austin-Healey 3000 Mk II.
