The first generation BMW 1 Series, collectively known as the E8x, was introduced for the 2005 model year. The first generation was built in various bodystyles, including 3 Door Hatchback (E81), 5 Door Hatchback (E87), Coupe (E82), and Convertible (E88). The most notable of the first generation 1 Series variants is the coveted BMW 1M, while other variants include the 116i, 125i, 128i, 130i, 135i, and 135is. BMW has never sold 1 Series hatchbacks in North America, only offering the coupe and convertible variants. Production of the BMW E8x 1 Series ended in 2013, and the generation was replaced by the F20 BMW 1 Series.
