The BMW 318i is a variant of the E36 BMW 3 Series introduced for the 1992 model year. Initially powered by the 1.8L M40 four-cylinder producing 111hp, the 1.8L M43 with 114hp replaced the M40 in 1993. Both of these engines were paired to both manual and automatic transmission options. The E36 318i was available as a sedan and as a convertible, and was built until 1998, but the model series would continue life in the next generation E46 BMW 3 Series.
