BMW introduced the fourth generation of the 3 Series, the E46, for the 1999 model year. The E46 was offered in a variety of body styles including coupe, convertible, sedan, and wagon. The fourth generation 3 Series was available with either an inline 4 or inline 6 engine, both available in different displacements, as well as diesel versions. E46 variants included: 318Ci, 320i, 320Ci, 323i, 323Ci, 328i, 328Ci, 325i, 325Xi, 325Ci, 330i, 330Xi, 330Ci, 330i ZHP (Performance Package), 330ci ZHP (Performance Package), and the E46 M3. As well as standard E46 variants, BMW also produced a few versions of the 3 Series Compact hatchback, including the 318Ti and 325Ti, although these models were not offered in North America. As with many popular models, E36 3 Series vehicles were often converted into Race Cars. Built until 2006, the E46 was phased out by the E90 3 Series starting in 2005.
