The Base Model for the BMW Z3 Coupe was introduced for the 1998 model year. These cars were powered by two inline six engine options that included a 2.8L and a 3.0L unit. Transmission options included a 4 and 5 speed automatic, as well as a 5 speed manual, with all options sending drive to the rear wheels. Production of the Base Model BMW Z3 Coupe ended in 2002 when BMW replaced the Z3 with the BMW Z4.
