The Buick Special was introduced in 1936. The Special was one of Buick's entry level models, built in a variety of body styles, and offered with a wide range of engines. The Buick Special traces its roots to the Buick Series 40, and was built in four generations: 1st Gen (1936-1949), 2nd Gen (1949-1958), 3rd Gen (1961-1963), and 4th Gen (1964-1969). After 1969, Buick used the Special name for their entry level trim packages.
