The Chevelle was introduced in 1964 and gave Chevrolet the flexibility of a car line that they could use to fit and customize to many households. The Malibu was the sportiest of the bunch, and was offered in a 2 Door Hardtop or convertible. If you sought one of the powerful small block V8s many customers and dealers combined such options with the Super Sport package. The Super Sport package brought with it more exclusivity in the form of bucket seats with a chrome center console that nicely framed the transmission shifter. Outwardly there was stainless trim that followed the contours of the body lines and then the “Malibu SS” emblems that were present on the rear quarters along with SS badging on the rear deck lid, and a smartly place SS emblem in the lower right of the grill. SS hubcaps were also commonly seen. This trim package was available for 6-cylinder cars as well for 64 and 65.
