The Chevrolet Chevelle was a series of mid-size cars introduced for the 1964 model year. The first generation Chevelle was a new mid-size model and was available in a variety of body styles including hardtop, sedan, coupe, convertible, station wagon, and coupe utility (sold as the El Camino). The top trim offering was known as the Malibu, and a wide range of inline six and V8 engines were available. The Chevelle is recoginzied as an early contributor to the "Muscle Car" wars with models of Malibu SS, Z16, and SS-396. Production of the first generation Chevelle lasted through 1967, when the model was replaced by the Second Generation Chevrolet Chevelle.
