The eighth generation of Chevrolet Impala was introduced for the 1994 model year. The Impala name was resurrected for a series of performance focused four door sedans known as the Impala SS. These cars were based on the Chevrolet Caprice, and were powered by a 5.7L 'LT1' V8 engine that produced 260hp. The Impala SS saw just under 70,000 examples built before production ended in 1996, when the Impala name was once again put on haitus. Chevrolet eventually reintroduced the name for the ninth Generation Chevrolet Impala.
