The sixth generation of Chrysler Imperial was introduced for the 1949 model year. The sixth generation of Imperial saw new and updated styling, as well as a much wider range of body styles including convertible, 'Newport' two door hardtop, a Club coupe, and Imperial Custom limousine. This latest generation of Imperial drew heavily from the Chrysler New Yorker, including using the same 5.3L inline eight or 5.4L V8 engines. The sixth generation Imperial was produced until 1954, after which Chrysler decided to separate the Imperial into its own division. The Imperial name would feature on a Chrysler again in 1990 on the Seventh Generation Chrysler Imperial.
