The first generation of Dodge Dart was introduced for the 1960 model year. The Dart was created to give Dodge's full size model line an entry level version, and was offered in sedan, wagon, hardtop, and convertible body styles. Three main trim levels were offered: Seneca (base), Pioneer (intermediate), and Phoenix (premium). Three V8 engine options (5.2L, 5.9L, 6.3L) were offered alongside an inline six (3.7L Slant Six) unit. Production of the first generation Dart ended in 1961 with the introduction of the Second Generation Dodge Dart.
