The first generation of Dodge Ramcharger was introduced for the 1974 model year. The first generation of Ramcharger was offered as a convertible SUV, with an option of a fabric top or removable hardtop. Initially, the Ramcharger was only offered as a four wheel drive vehicle, but from 1975 a rear wheel drive option was available. A choice of four V8 engines as well as one inline six unit were available on the first generation Ramcharger, which was built until 1980, when it was replaced by the Second Generation Dodge Ramcharger.
