The Ford Bronco II is a compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) produced across a single generation from 1984 to 1990. The Bronco II was derived from the Ford Ranger compact pickup truck. It was marketed as a competitor of the Chevrolet S-10 Blazer and the Jeep Cherokee. The vehicle had three doors and a wagon-style body. After 1986, customers could choose from 4x4 or standard rear two-wheel drive. In 1989, the body was restyled. Throughout its existence, the Bronco II was powered by three different front-mounted engines; two separate-sized Cologne V6s, and, for a short time, an inline-four-cylinder turbo diesel. Depending on the model year, four- and five-speed manual gearboxes and three- or four-speed automatic transmissions were offered. The Explorer replaced the Bronco II, also based on the Ranger platform; however, it was a mid-sized SUV.
