The 3rd Generation of the Ford Country Sedan was introduced in 1957. It was a full-size station wagon with a 4-door body and a completely redesigned design characterized by lower lines, an elongated body and a more aerodynamic styling. It retained rear-wheel drive and offered 3-speed manual transmissions and the Ford-O-Matic automatic. Engine choices included a 226ci inline six and various Y-block and V8s, ranging from 272ci to 352ci in the most powerful models. A notable feature of this generation was the introduction of Ford's wider and lower frame platform, which allowed for a lower floor for more interior space and easier acces. The 3rd Generation Ford Country Sedan was produced until 1959 and was replaced by the 4th Gen.
