The eighth and final generation of Ford Country Squire was introduced for the 1979 model year. This new generation of Country Squire saw a substatial downsizing from the previous generation, and was based on the Ford LTD. These rear wheel drive, wood paneled station wagons were available with either a 5.0L or 5.8L V8 engine which were paired to a 4 speed automatic transmission. Production of the Ford Country Squire lasted until 1991, when the model was discontinued.
