The Ford Escort RS2000 was first introduced as a performance-focused variant of the Mk1 Ford Escort. Debuting in 1972, the RS2000 was only built in a rear wheel drive coupe body style with a strengthened bodyshell that featured reinforcement in key areas in order to improve rigidity. This strong yet lightweight body, when paired with a 2.0L inline four engine and a four speed manual, combined to make a formidable package that saw success in a variety of motorsport. Production of the Mk1 RS2000 ended in 1974, although various late production examples were sold and registered in 1975.
