The second generation of the Ford Escort was introduced in 1975. Known as the Mk2, the second generation was largely a cosmetic update of the Mk1, with the majority of engines, variants, and body styles carrying over. Coupe, sedan, station wagon, and van body styles were offered, with standard variants including the Popular, L, GL, Ghia, and Sport available. In addition, sportier variants such as the RS Mexico and RS2000 were built, as well as late production special variants such as the Harrier and Goldcrest. Engines ranged from 1.1L to 2.0L inline four units, with drive sent to the rear wheels through manual or automatic transmissions. Production of the Mk2 Escort lasted until 1980, when it was replaced by the Mk3 Ford Escort.
