The first generation of Ford LTD was introduced for the 1965 model year. For the first year of production, the model was known as the Galaxie 500 LTD before it was renamed to just LTD. This new model was Ford's top offering, featuring a range of premium options usually only found on Ford's luxury Lincoln brand. The first generation was available in a range of body styles such as hardtop, coupe, sedan, convertible, and station wagon (Country Squire), and was powered by a variety of V8 engine options. Production of the first generation LTD lasted until 1968, when it was replaced by the Second Generation Ford LTD.
