The 2003 to 2004 Ford Mustang Mach 1 was based on the SN-99 "New Edge" Fourth Generation Mustang and featured unique styling, performance, and collectibility. Following on strong enthusiast response to the special edition 2001 Bullitt Mustang, Ford slotted the Mach 1 between the Mustang GT and the Mustang SVT Cobra. Exterior features included a functional Shaker scoop, unique 3-tier hood, hood decals, a unique body kit and Magnum 500 style wheels. Exclusive to the 2004 version of the Mach 1 were 40th Anniversary badges on the front fenders and rear decklid. The 4.6L V-8 engine had an output 305hp which it sent to the rear wheels via an automatic or manual transmission. Suspension included unique Tokico struts on the rear and the convertible-spec subframe connectors, which aided handling. The 4th Gen Mach 1 was a two-year only special edition that saw a total of 7,182 examples built by the time production ended in 2004. The Mach 1 name would continue life as part of the Fifth Generation Ford Mustang.
