The fifth generation of Ford Mustang was introduced for the 2005 model year. The fifth generation saw the model take on a retro inspired look harking back to the First Generation Ford Mustang. This latest generation was available as a coupe or convertible, and was powered by a range of V6 and V8 engines driving the rear wheels. The fifth generation Mustang was built in two evolutions, the S-197 I (2005-2009) and S-197 II (2010-2014). Ford built a variety of performance and special editions, including the GT, a reborn Boss 302, which included the special Boss 302 Laguna Seca Edition. As well as the Boss 302, the fifth generation saw the return of the Shelby Mustang. Other notable variants included the Ford Performance Race Cars. Production lasted until 2014, when Ford introduced the Sixth Generation Mustang.
