The 1st Generation of the Ford Taurus was introduced for 1986. It was available as a 4 door sedan and 5 door station wagon, featuring front-wheel drive. It offered either a 5 speed manual or 3 and 4 speed automatic transmissions, depending on the trim. Available engines included a 2.5L inline four, 3.0L V6 and 3.8L V6. The main versions were the L, GL, LX, and the sporty SHO starting in 1989. The SHO was equipped with a high-performance 3.0L Yamaha DOHC V6 engine and was available only with a manual transmission. The 1st Gen Taurus was produced until 1991 and was replaced by the 2nd Gen Ford Taurus.
