The Lamborghini Countach LP500 S, also known as the LP5000 S, arrived in 1982. This Countach was the first car to use Lamborghini's updated V12 engine, which now featured an increased displacement of 4.8L. This larger engine was actually less powerful than its smaller predecessor, but it complied with US emission regulations, allowing for easier entry to the crucial American market. The exterior of the car was largely unchanged, but larger side indicator lights were added as part of US market requirements. The interior of the car saw a few changes, including a re-profiled glove box and a redesigned center console. The name of the LP500 S can sometimes cause confusion between Countach models. The original Countach prototype was badged LP500, named so for the 5.0L V12 Lamborghini had originally intended to use in the car. The later LP500 S cars were 500 in name, but not badging. Certain models featured just "Countach S", while others featured "Countach 5000 S" badging. This lead to both names being used to describe the same model series of Countach. Production would last until 1985, and the variant was replaced by the LP5000 Quattrovalvolve.
