The first generation of Lexus LX was introduced for the 1996 model year. Known as the J80, this new generation of luxury SUVs were available in one variant: the LX450. These cars were by a 4.5L inline-six cylinder engine sending power to all four wheels via a 4 speed automatic transmission. Heavily based on the Toyota Land Cruiser 80 Series, the Lexus LX450 was largely a more well appointed Land Cruiser. Built until 1997, the LX450 was replaced by the Lexus LX470 for the 1998 model year.
