The Lotus Mark VI was the first production car made by Lotus Cars. Made available only as a kit, the Mark VI was a very simple concept: an extremely light, yet tough space-frame chassis that allowed the installation of any customer-preferred powertrain package, which helped it be eligible for many racing championships. The kit also included a comprehensive package, which included all panels and suspension components needed. As the Mark VI started participating in multiple events in Britain, it also started winning frequently, beating more powerful and expensive cars and earning praise for its focus on lightness, handling, and low-speed acceleration. This was the car that helped establish Chapman as a reputed builder of specialty sports/racing cars.
