For the 1991 model year, Mazda would introduce a "Special Edition" version of the Mazda MX-5 Miata. Limited to 4000* units for the US and Canada, the 1991 Special Edition was painted in British racing green with tan leather interior and tonneau cover, and featured cosmetic upgrades such as a Nardi shift knob and handbrake lever, stainless steel door sills, among others. Mechanically, the 1991 Special Edition Miata's were essentially identical to the Base Model of the time. For the 1992 model year, it would evolve into the 1992 Black Miata. *Sources differ on production numbers.
