The Mercedes-Benz 280SEL was a variant of the W116 Mercedes S-Class that was introduced in 1974. The 280SEL was only offered in a long wheelbase sedan body style, and was powered by Mercedes' M110 engine. This engine was a 2.8L inline six that originally had an output of 177hp, but in 1978 was increased to 182hp. This engine was paired to both manual and automatic transmission options. Production of the W116 Mercedes-Benz 280SEL ended in 1980, but the model series would continue in the next generation of S-Class as the W126 Mercedes-Benz 280SEL.
