The fifth generation of Mercury Comet was introduced for the 1971 model year, and was offered as a sedan ro coupe. Engines offered included two inline six options (2.8L, 3.3L) and one V8 option (4.9L). The most notable fifth generation variant was the Comet GT, which was a sporty coupe that featured a raft of exterior changes. Production of the Mercury Comet ended in 1977.
