The second generation Mercury Cylone was introduced for the 1966 model year. This second generation of Cyclone, also known as the Comet Cyclone, saw the addition of a convertible to the already established coupe. Various V8 engine options were available, including various 6.4L V8 units, as well as a 7.0L V8 which was only fitted to 27 examples. The second generation Cyclone would also see the introduction of the more powerful and desirable Cyclone GT. Production of the second generation Cyclone continued until 1967, when it was replaced by the Third Generation Mercury Cyclone.
